CommView is a marvelous tool for network analysis. There product Commview for WiFi can be used to analyze the wireless network, catch packets, keys and log them. It really is a wonderful and extremely powerful software. It has a price tag of $999. You can see its details here. It is used to analyze 802.11 a/b/g/n networks and log there packet data. The more the activity on the network the greater the ratio of packet capture.
It indeed has a big price but the good thing is that it is free for 30 days. It has a 30 day evaluation period hence we can use it. So how to do it.:
1- Check if you adapter is compatible:
We will check if our wireless adapter is compatible with Commview for wi-fi. As due to the architecture of windows many few adapters are compatible for network analysis. For the full list go here.
2- Start Commview:
Now if you are compatible and have installed commview for wi-fi then you can start with this step. If you are not able to find a working download for commview then no problem here is the link for it. Click here to download Commview for wi-fi. Now install commview and do the steps to setup your card drivers. If it is supported then the wi-fi adapter drivers will be installed on default just do the steps which commview says. If you are experiencing any issues here feel free to comment below. Now after that Restart the commview for wi-fi and then this concludes the end of this step.
3- Setting Up and Capturing Packets:
Now click the Logging tab. After this enable auto- save. And now click the play button. Then click the start scanning and then select the wifi you want to hack. Make sure the encryption type is WEP as it only works for WEP hacking. Now click start scanning. That is all.
Make sure the channel is more than 1. As 1 indicates 0 devices connected to the wi-fi. Greater the channel lesse the amount of time neede to hack.
4- Collecting Logs:
Now is the time to collect logs. After you have like more than 100,000 packets of data captured then go to the logging tab and click concentrate logs. Now select all the files and save them. It merges all the logs into a single log file. Save this file some place and then open it up in log viewer. Now within logviewer go to import and then select wireshark or .cap format and save the file.
5- Getting the Key:
This is the main part. Now we will use the captured packets to crack the wi-fi. For this we will use the aircrack-ng GUI. A great software. Really this is the best friend of a penetration tester. Now you can get it from here. Now after downloading open the aircrack-ng GUI.exe. Now select the .cap file which we saved later. Lauch the attack and then follow the on-screen instructions. You will get the key pretty shortly. And if not then try to re-do step 3 and capture the packets again but this time capture more packets then what you captured previously.
